WEEKEND UPDATE - 9-10 OCTOBER

English Road Running Association 6 & 4 Stage Autumn Road Relays, Sutton Coldfield, 9 October 2021

Aldershot Farnham and District completed the double in the senior 6 and 4 stage races.

In the men’s 6-stage race, the team consisting of Josh Grace (Geoff Watkin), Ricky Harvie (Tim Eglen), Ben Bradley (Craig Winrow), Adam Clarke (Watkin), Ellis Cross (Mick Woods) and Jack Rowe (Eglen) sealed the first victory for the club at the event since 2014.

Leeds City were second overall while Shaftesbury Barnet claimed third place ahead of Birchfield Harriers.

In the women’s 4-stage race, AFD won for the 12th time in the last 14 editions courtesy of a strong showing from the quartet of Ruby Woolfe (Woods), Pippa Roessler (Woods), Louise Small (Woods) and Lilly Coward (Winrow),

Although AFD’s B team crossed the line in second place, event rules stipulate clubs’ can only win one medal per club, so Lincoln Wellington took the silver medal with Reading securing bronze.

Chicago Marathon, USA, 10 October 2021

JohnBoy Smith (Christine Parsloe) matched his best finish in the Chicago marathon as he crossed the line in fourth position in the men’s elite wheelchair race.

After placing fourth in 2019, Paralympian, Smith, pushed to a time of 01:29:37, nine seconds off a podium spot held by American, Aaron Pike. He was just under nine minutes ahead of his nearest opponent in fifth.

American, Daniel Romanchuk, narrowly sealed victory ahead of Marcel Hug by one second in a time of 1:29.07. The latter has had the upper hand in the last couple of races as he won the Paralympic title and the London Marathon crown.
