XXXVIII Cross Internacional de Venta de Banos, Spain, 17 December

Racing for England in Spain Verity Ockenden (coach: Tony Houchin) and Katie Bingle (Mick Woods) both produced very promising results, finishing fifth and sixth in a race won by Olympic steeplechase champion Ruth Jebet. Just 15 seconds back was Charlotte Christensen in eighth, rounding out a strong showing.

In the men’s race Nick Goolab (Craig Winrow) was on top form as he stepped onto the podium, a fast finish ensured he got the better of Spanish internationals Ilas Fifa and Javier Guerra for third. Graham Rush was the next Brit home in 11th.

In the junior races it was a clean sweep for the England girls in the U20 race, Chloe Sharp breaking the tape ahead of Charlotte Dale (Colin Gemson) in a sprint for the line, with Kirsty Walker (Rob McKim) third.

Sam Stevens (Alan Maddocks) took a splendid silver in the U20 men’s race, with Luke Prior and Ricky Lutakome (Nick Hancock) fifth and sixth.



South of Thames CCA 7.5 Championships, Aldershot, 16 December

A strong men’s field assembled for this annual pre-Christmas cross country test held over a seven and a half mile distance, with John Gilbert eventually prevailing. He enjoyed a tussle at the head of the race with George Duggan (Mark Hookway) and John Sanderson (Alli Crossman) who picked up the minor medals, with GB mountain running international Max Nicholls (Peter Brenchley) fourth.
