SIDBURY SETS SECOND FASTEST T54 5000M TIME IN HISTORY

Danny Sidbury (Christine Parsloe, Sutton & District) excelled in the fastest T54 5000m race in history as he went inside the previous world record in a race won by Marcel Hug – in a new world record – on day two of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Nottwil, Switzerland.

In his second race of the day, Sidbury went with the Swiss Paralympic champion, Hug who has been in a league of his own in recent times. However, the Briton stuck close to him throughout, and on the final lap, he bravely went with the pace to clock the second quickest time in history in 9:15.74 to Hug’s 9:15.26.

Earlier in the day Sidbury had also set a PB in the T54 400m, lowering his best to 45.89, the first sub 46 second time of his career.

Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby AC) – who has also been in excellent form in Switzerland over the last two weeks – clocked 46.36, the second quickest of the T54 athletes from all the heats. Dillon Labrooy (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) was close to his PB as he stopped the clock at 48.08 in another 400m heat.

In the women’s T34 400m, Hannah Cockroft (Paul Moseley, Leeds) won in a time of 54.84, with Kare Adenegan (Job King, Coventry) second in 1:00.36, and Fabienne Andre (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) continuing her strong series in Switzerland with a time of 1:04.58.

Marcus Perrineau-Daley (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) was in one-lap action in the T51-52 race, and he recorded a time of 1:03.38.

In the ambulant 100 metre races, Paralympic champion Thomas Young (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) posted a time of 11.28 (0.9) which was a season best in the 100m.

Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Emmanuel Oyinbo-Coker (Joe McDonnell, Newham and Essex Beagles) was just outside his season best as he ran 11.02 (1.2) on his way to winning the T47 100m.

In one of the final races of the day, Maria Lyle (Jamie Bowie, Team East Lothian) ran a superb season best of 14:58 (1.9) in her 100m race.

James Ledger (Matt Elias, DSW Para Academy) was close to his PB with a season best of 11.59 (0.3) in the T11-13 race for athletes with a visual impairment.
