PARA ATHLETES SET FOR PARIS SIGNED UP FOR 2024 LONDON ATHLETICS MEET

Five Paris-bound para athletes are among those confirmed to compete at the London Athletics Meet on Saturday 20 July at the London Stadium.

There are six events in the programme of events: the women’s 800m wheelchair, men’s 1500m wheelchair, men’s and women’s 100m ambulant, men’s 1500m ambulant and the universal 4x100m relay.

Multiple world champion Sammi Kinghorn (GBR) will return to the London Stadium after her victory in the women’s wheelchair race in 2023 where she won the sprint finish against Belgium’s Léa Bayekula and Hannah Cockroft (GBR). The British pair, who were announced in the first wave of selections for the Paralympic Games last week, will line-up once again in London only a matter of weeks before the big event in Paris gets underway.

Kare Adenegan (GBR), a winner over 100m at the London event in 2018, will also line-up in the women’s 800m wheelchair event as she fine-tunes her preparations ahead of the summer.

Reigning world T38 long jump silver medallist Olivia Breen (GBR) will contest the women’s 100m ambulant race in London, while 2023 world champion Ben Sandilands (GBR) will look to match his winning display from 2023 when he lines up in the ambulant 1500m.

Kinghorn, who has revised her personal bests in the T53 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m already this season, is excited at the prospect of returning to the London Stadium next month.

The Scottish athlete said, “It was incredible to win in the London Stadium last year, so I am excited to be back racing there next month against a really strong field. It was a very close contest at the 2023 event, so I know I’ll face fierce competition which will be perfect preparation for the Paralympic Games later in the summer.

“With Paris just around the corner, it will be amazing to be competing in front of a 50,000 plus crowd before we head off to the Games. I have experienced some fantastic atmospheres during my racing career, so I know this will be a special one again and I can’t wait to race in front of everyone on July 20.”
