FURTHER SELECTIONS MADE TO PARALYMPICSGB ATHLETICS TEAM FOR TOKYO 2020

Thirty-two additional athletes have been selected to the ParalympicsGB athletics team for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo next month, joining the 12 athletes who were selected as part of the first wave team announcement in June.

Past Paralympic champions Libby Clegg and guide runner Chris Clarke, Kadeena Cox, Dan Greaves, Jonnie Peacock and David Weir all join the strong squad heading out to Japan to compete in the athletics programme between the 27 August and 5 September 2021.

Jonnie Peacock won gold in London and Rio so is on for the hattrick of Paralympic titles in Tokyo and will be representing the British team in the T64 100m for the first time since winning gold at the World Para Athletics Championships in London 2017.

Back on the track in the T54 1500m and 5000m and on the road for the marathon, six-time Paralympic champion David Weir is set to compete at his sixth Paralympic Games. Likewise, Dan Greaves will also be competing at his sixth Games in the F64 discus, having won a medal at every summer edition since Sydney 2000.

Kadeena Cox is selected for the women’s T38 400m, an event she won gold in back in 2016. She will also compete in cycling for the second consecutive Games following her selection last week. Double Paralympic champions from 2016, Libby Clegg and guide runner Chris Clarke, are set to contest the T11 200m.

Newly crowned European Para Athletics champions Columba Blango [T20 400m], Dan Pembroke [F13 Javelin] and Zak Skinner [T13 Long Jump and 100m] all earn call-ups for their first Paralympic Games.

Four British Athletics Paralympic Futures Academy athletes have been included in the squad: Blango, Lydia Church [F12 Shot Put], Danny Sidbury [T54 400m, 800m, 1500m and 5000m] and Harrison Walsh [F64 Discus].

Para Athletics Head Coach at UK Athletics, Paula Dunn, said, “I am proud to announce our team for the Tokyo Paralympic Games. We have selected an incredibly strong squad of athletes who have excelled at past Games, to those who have progressed significantly during the last cycle, to a number of Futures Academy athletes who have stepped up in recent times to put themselves in contention.

“It is a testament to all the hard work from the athletes, coaches and their support networks, their family and friends. We will be supporting everyone on the team so they will be in the best position to achieve their goals in Japan next month.”
