COCKROFT IMPROVES T34 100M RECORD ON FINAL DAY IN NOTTWIL

Hannah Cockroft (coach: Paul Moseley, club: Leeds) set an outstanding world record in the T34 100m to end her fantastic Swiss series in style, while Danny Sidbury (Christine Parsloe, Sutton & District) lowered the men’s T54 1500m British record on the final day of action in Nottwil at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix.

Cockroft’s time of 16.31 (1.1) lowered her mark set at the Tokyo Paralympic Games – 16.39 – as the Yorkshire-born athlete continues to show her world class form as she approaches the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris in July.

In the same race, Kare Adenegan (Job King, Coventry) posted a time of 17.41 for second, while Fabienne Andre (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) was fifth with a time of 18.74.

As for Sidbury, who posted the second fastest time in history in the T54 5000m on Friday, he was experiencing a similar end result on Saturday as he set one of the fastest times ever recorded in the T54 1500m behind Marcel Hug. Matching the Swiss athlete wheel for wheel, Sidbury clocked a British record of 2:43.86, very closely behind Hug’s world record time of 2:43.73.

In the women’s 1500m, Eden Rainbow-Cooper (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) completed her impressive Swiss series with a time of 3:24.75, just four seconds outside her lifetime best.

Back to the 100m races, Mel Woods (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) set one of the fastest times of her career to date as she posted 17.37 (0.7) in the women’s T54 100m.

In the men’s T54 races, Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby) also set a quick time with 14.21 (1.6) seeing him sit seventh in the overall standing after all the heats.

After setting a time of 14.58 on Friday, Maria Lyle (Jamie Bowie, Team East Lothian) returned to the track on Saturday to run another solid time in the 100m, this time 14.70 (1.0).

There was improvement from Thomas Young (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) who clocked a season best of 11.07 (1.0) on his way to second in the T38 100m behind Dimitri Jozwicki (FRA) who crossed the line in 11.05.

In other ambulant 100m races, James Ledger (Matt Elias, DSW Para Academy) posted a time of 11.60 (0.2), while Emmanuel Oyinbo-Coker (Joe McDonnell, Newham and Essex Beagles) ran 11.01 (2.1) to win the T47 race.
