CENTRAL, LEEDS AND SHETTLESTON SET FOR THE European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country

Central AC, Leeds City and Shettleston Harriers are the clubs representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland at this Sunday’s (5 February) European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country in Oropesa del Mar, Spain.

Two clubs will take part in the senior men’s race: Leeds City and Central AC qualified at the British Athletics Cross Challenge fixture in Liverpool last November.

Central AC competed at the 2022 edition of the event, and they will be represented by a team of four this year: Jamie Crowe (coach: Derek Easton), Tom Graham-Marr (Michael Wright), Hamish Hickey (Easton) and Calum Phillip (Easton).

Crowe was recently victorious at the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Perth as he continued his comeback from an injury last year. He was the top scorer for Central at the 2022 edition where he placed 32nd overall.

Additionally, Leeds City will have four athletes in the senior men’s race. They are Mohamed Abshir (Philip Townsend), Graham Rush, Linton Taylor and Joshua Woodcock-Shaw (Townsend).

The club will also have a quartet competing in the mixed relay race. Jack Allison (Townsend), Eilidh Bell, Jason Hall and Jennifer Walsh (Townsend) will take on several clubs from across the continent.

In the senior women’s race, Shettleston Harriers qualified the only British team for the Championships.

The Scottish clubs’ team is assembled of Emma Baird, Aoife Carr (John Montgomery), Ruth Joss (Montgomery), Avril Manson (Montgomery) and Hannah Terrance.

The 2023 ECCC Cross Country will be live streamed on the European Athletics YouTube channel.
