CALLING WOMEN IN ATHLETICS

The sixth annual Women in World Athletics (WIWA) Seminar will take place in London next month and British Athletics are inviting 15 women from the UK to attend.

The three-day leadership seminar will be held from 13-15 July at the London Stadium and has been jointly organised by the IAAF and British Athletics.

WIWA was part of the pre-legacy for last year’s World Para Athletics Championships and IAAF World Championships but following on from the programme’s success, this year will be the sixth edition of the seminar.

Delegates from around the world will take part in this year’s event which will focus on the development of female leaders from around the world. The aim of the programme is to support female administrators, coaches, officials and retired athletes involved in athletics who have aspirations to secure leadership positions.

Participants will improve their knowledge and understanding of the global athletics and sporting landscape, benefit from shared personal experiences to better understand leadership challenges and opportunities, develop confidence awareness and competence in a range of leadership behaviours, and have access to networking opportunities during and following the seminar.

Over 120 women from nearly 60 countries have taken part in WIWA since its inception in 2013 and speakers have included a number of high profile women involved in athletics, including IAAF council delegate Sylvia Barlag and multiple Paralympic gold medallist, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

This programme is open to any women who have an active involvement within UK Athletics, have the commitment to pursue their own professional development within athletics and have ambitions to work towards senior leadership roles.

Participants will be expected to complete pre-seminar reading and preparation of a short presentation, develop a personal development plan during the programme, and participate actively during the seminar and in post seminar evaluations and networking.
