Britain's World Para Athletics Championships stars to be celebrated in Birmingham

Six of Britain’s World Para Athletics gold medallists will compete at the Muller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday, with three events taking place alongside the IAAF Diamond League programme.

Two-time Paralympic T44 100m champion Jonnie Peacock, who also won his second world title in London last month, will race over 100m against a field that includes his long-term rival Richard Browne of the USA, as well as T44 200m world champion Jarryd Wallace.

Browne, the T44 100m world record holder, missed the World Para Athletics Championships and will face Peacock for the first time this season. Peacock came close to breaking the world record in the heat of his 100m at the London stadium, and after many duels between the two in the past, it is poised to be a great show for the Alexander Stadium crowd.

A remarkable four British world champions will go head-to-head in a mouth-watering women’s sprint race. Newly crowned London 2017 World Para Athletics champions Sophie Hahn (200m T38, 100m T38), Georgina Hermitage (400m T37, 100m T37), Kadeena Cox (400m T38) and Olivia Breen (long jump T38) will face-off in a thrilling T37/38 100m race.

Britain’s Bethany Tucker and Katrina Hart will also line up in a race that will be a true celebration of British success this summer.

British athletics legend Richard Whitehead will sign off his 2017 track season in the T42/44 200m, the event that he won yet another gold medal in at the World Para Athletics Championships last month.

Whitehead also finished third over 100m in London to take his global medal tally to four gold and one bronze at World Championships alongside his two gold and one silver Paralympic medals.

South Africa’s burgeoning talent Ntando Mhlangu, who finished just over half a second behind Whitehead in the 200m at the London Stadium, is likely to provide his sternest test. He recently set a world record in the T42 100m at the World Para Athletics Junior championships in Nottwil, so will be one to watch in this contest. American Regas Woods Sr, who won the T42 long jump world title in the capital city, will move to the track to take on Whitehead in the sprint.
