ANDREW POZZI APPOINTED CHAIR OF THE UKA ATHLETES’ COMMISSION
UK Athletics is pleased to confirm the appointment of Andrew Pozzi as the new Chair of the UKA Athletes’ Commission. Andrew, the 2018 world athletics indoor 60m hurdles champion with deep experience of the high-performance system, takes on the role at an important moment as the Commission enters a new phase of work to strengthen the representation and influence of athlete voices across the organisation.
The Athletes’ Commission provides an independent channel for international athletes to share insight, raise priorities and contribute to the development of the sport. The Commission advises the UKA Board and Performance Team on key issues that affect the athlete experience, from performance environments and welfare to opportunities and pathways. As Chair, Andrew will lead this work and play an enhanced role in ensuring athlete views are present in UKA’s governance structures, including attending UKA Board meetings to reflect the perspectives of competing athletes directly.
Andrew will support the continued development of the Commission’s remit and help guide its membership through the next stage of activity. This includes deeper engagement with UKA leadership and a renewed focus on ensuring that athletes feel connected, represented and heard within the national governing body.
UKA Chair Ian Beattie said:
“We are delighted to welcome Andrew into this role. The Athletes’ Commission is an essential part of how we listen to and learn from athletes, and Andrew’s experience, insight and commitment to athlete representation will be invaluable as the Commission moves into its next phase. I would also like to thank Steph Twell for her leadership and service as Chair, and to acknowledge the contribution of all Commission members for the time and commitment they have given to this important work.”
Andrew Pozzi said:
“I’m delighted to be appointed Chair of the Athletes’ Commission. The athlete experience is exceptionally important to me, and I’m excited to utilise this opportunity to support both our athletes and UKA to improve communication and visibility on the key issues where they can collaborate. Together I’m sure we can continue to drive performance and experience.”
As part of this next chapter for the Commission, the appointment process for World Class Programme athlete members will open shortly. Further details will be shared with athletes through UKA channels in the coming weeks.
Further information on the upcoming WCP athlete member appointments will be published soon.
