The seventh edition of the Müller Anniversary Games saw over 40,000 spectators attending across both days, 5 World Leads, 5 Meeting Records, 3 Area Records and 11 National Records. 

Karsten Warholm stormed to victory in the men’s 400m Hurdles, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of second-place Yasmani Copello on his way to another European record, bringing him up to seventh in the all-time list and a new world lead.

Warholm would be one of three Norwegians with new national records as Jakob and Filip Ingebrigtsen broke the 5000m and Mile records respectively on their way to second behind distance sensations Hagos Gebrhiwet and Samuel Tefera of Ethiopia. In the women’s 5000m, Helen Obiri was back in her best form, running her second-best time ever ahead of pre-race favourite Sifan Hassan in third. The duo as well as Agnes Tirop became the quickest trio ever in a 5000m race, with 15 women going under 15 minutes – the joint most in a single race.

In the women’s 100m Hurdles, Danielle Williams laid down a new national record and world lead hitting two personal bests in two rounds. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson won the women’s 100m and 200m – the former edging out GB & NI’s Dina Asher-Smith. In the men’s equivalent, South Africa’s Akani Simbine dipped Zharnel Hughes for the victory, while China’s Zhenye Xie smashed the Asian record in the 200m.

In the field, there were expected wins for Malaika Mihambo and Luvo Manyonga in the long jump, as well as Daniel Stahl in the Discus. Pedro Pablo Pichardo got the best of Christian Taylor in the triple jump and Syria’s Majd Eddin Ghazal spoiled Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim’s return to London to take the win in the Diamond League event.

What an electrifying weekend of athletics it was.
