Entry Eligibility 2021
Following on from the notification announcing that the British Athletics Indoor Championships will be held on 20th & 21st February 2021 at Emirates Arena, Glasgow please find below the criteria in order to compete at the Championships.
Due to an unprecedented 2020, there are no qualifying standards and invitations are all based on athletes -meeting the “elite athlete criteria” agreed with DCMS and issued in guidance
British Athletics is of course following all Government advice and guidelines to ensure the safety of those involved and engaging in our sport and we continue to work closely with all our stakeholders to get to the best possible solutions.
The official invitation letters will be sent out on 23rd December to athletes who are currently eligible as per the outlined criteria.
To receive an invitation athlete must fulfil one of the following*:
- Be receiving Funding – either World Class or Futures
- Be on the Olympic long list (as of December 1st, 2020)
- A member of the 2019 Doha team
- Achieved an Olympic qualifying standard (or a European Indoor qualifying standard)
- Hold a World Athletics ranking quota place (as of December 1st, 2020)
- Be on the Home countries Commonwealth Games 2022 long list
- A medallist at the senior British Championships in 2020.
Athletes must also be eligible to compete for GB&NI (i.e., full British passport holder).
*The Head coach in conjunction with the Performance oversight group can at its discretion, in exceptional circumstances add athletes to elite athlete status if it is felt that they are in contention for selection to the European Indoor Championship team.
Please find below the current EVENT days for the British Indoor Championships and the start and finish times on each day. As I am sure you can appreciate, whilst we are continuing to work in an ever-changing environment over the coming months, there may have to be further changes, but we will do our best to keep these to the minimum. We will of course contact athletes individually if an event was to move days.

Q) When will a full competitors list be available?
A) A list of invitees will be published in December. Athletes must accept their invitation in order to be confirmed in the Championships. The deadline for accepting your invitation is Midnight (GMT) Sunday 7 February 2021.
Q) What should I do if I believe I have met the eligibility criteria, but do not appear on the list of invitees?

Q) What should I do if I am among the list of invitees for the British Athletics Indoor Championships, but have not received an invitation?

Q) What is the closing date for accepting invitations to the British Athletics Indoor Championships?
A) The deadline for accepting your invitation is Midnight (GMT) Sunday 7 February 2021.
Q) When will I see a timetable for the British Athletics Indoor Championships?
A) We anticipate it will be available on the British Athletics website approximately one month before the event.
Q) Can I enter an additional event during the Championships if I am eligible though have not previously declared my event(s)?
A) No athlete will be able to enter additional events after the declaration date (Midnight (GMT) Tuesday 9th February 2020) has passed or on the Championship weekend.
Q) What competition wear am I expected to compete in?
A) As this event is the British Championships, athletes MUST wear the current vest of their first claim affiliated club, University, County or their Regional or National sponsor vest. The club concerned must be the one which in terms of Rule 2 (6) caters for that particular discipline of athletics. There will be no exceptions.
Q) Is the British Athletics Indoor Championships an Open or Closed Championship?
A) The British Athletics Indoor Championships is a Closed Championships so only athletes eligible to compete for Great Britain & Northern Ireland can compete.
Q) How do I obtain tickets for my friends and family to watch me at the British Athletics Indoor Championships?
A) Under current restrictions, the event will be held behind-closed-doors. However, it will be streamed on britishathletics.org.uk with more information available nearer to the event.

Certain athletes will be eligible in two (or more) events and may only see their name listed in one. This is because we offer you what is assumed to be your preferred event but we are agreeable to switch you to another if you so wish.
