UK No.1s Steve Lewis and Kate Dennison are among the stars planning to bow out of the current indoor season by competing at Vault Manchester II at Sportcity, Manchester, on Saturday 10 March.
The meeting – funded by UK Athletics Event Management Group along with Manchester City Council and Reebok – will consist of 11 pole vault competitions through the day.
Organiser Dave Allister explained: “It is aimed at athletes’ enjoyment and lots of entertainment and music for the spectators. Vaulters of all abilities are welcome to attend and the highlight of the day is the elite competition at midday.”
Elite men already among the entry include Charles Andureux (France), who will be seeking to repear the victory last year of his compatriot, Damiel Dosseyi; UK record holder Nick Buckfield (Crawley AC), current national champion Steve Lewis (Newham and Essex Beagles), Commonwealth vaulter Keith Higham (Border Harriers), top Under 20 Luke Cutts (Dearneside AC), leading Under 17 Andy Marsh (City of Stoke AC) plus Senegal national record holder Karim Sene.
Elite women include national champion Kate Dennison (Sale Harriers Manchester), Chloe Mourand (France), who was fifth at last summer’s World Junior Championships; Ellie Spain (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers), who won last week’s Norwich Jumps International at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, London; Portugal No.2 Maria Ribeiro; Fiona Harrison (Trafford AC) and Abigail Haywood (Sale Harriers Manchester), the AAA Under 17 champion who made a fine debut for Norwich Union GB at the NU Jumps International.
