UKA today announced the withdrawal of Mara Yamauchi from the women’s marathon team set to compete at the World Championships at Daegu, Korea, in August.
Yamauchi (coach: Shige Yamauchi) said of her withdrawal: “I am very disappointed to miss the World Championships in Daegu. I was hoping to be able to return to full fitness for the World Championships following a hamstring injury. Although I have made good progress, unfortunately I have lost too much training time to make a good performance in Daegu realistic.
“My top priority now is to return to full fitness and to qualify for 2012. I wish all the Aviva GB & NI athletes in Daegu the very best of luck.”
