Sam Talbot

British Athletics’ has today announced the teams for the Senior and U23/U20 International Indoor Match Combined Events respectively.

Sam Talbot (coach: Eldon Lake) heads the U20 team in Spain after an impressive display at the England Indoor Combined Events Championships in Sheffield last weekend. Talbot set a world best score by a 16 year old in the junior heptathlon with a lifetime best of 5510 points, setting a PB in all seven events. He competed in the Decathlon at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia last year so will be excited at the prospect of pulling on the British vest once again in February.

Double World Junior champion Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake) has been selected for the U23 women’s event. Lake won the U23 competition at the international match last year and helped to guide the British team to overall gold in the 2015 edition. The British U23/U20 squad will take on athletes from France and Spain as they seek to regain their team title.

Niamh Emerson (David Feeney) will spearhead the U20 women’s team in the indoor pentathlon in Salamanca while Aiden Davies (Bruce Bewley), third in the senior men’s event in Sheffield, will lead the U23 men’s team in the heptathlon.

Meanwhile, a six-strong senior team have been selected to compete in France later this month.

England Indoor Combined Events senior champions Katie Stainton (Kelly Sotherton) and Liam Ramsay (Mike Corden) will lead the British team in the French city.

Stainton, coached by 2004 Olympic Heptathlon bronze medallist Kelly Sotherton, recorded a points tally of 4086 in Sheffield and after success at the U23/U20 match in 2015, she will be seeking a solid start at the senior level in Reims against France, Spain and Czech Republic.
