James Wilkinson
James Wilkinson clocked the fastest lap of the day at the National Road Relays

17 October 2011

Cabbage Patch 10, Twickenham, October 16

Jess Coulson (coach: Mick Woods) made a sensational 10 mile debut to win in 52:53 to go top of the McCain Power of Ten 10 mile rankings.

The 21 year-old, who ran a superb leg the day before in the National Road Relays when coming in a clear first on the opening leg for Stockport, had never raced more than 5km on the road before.

Her time was an UK under-23 best and puts her eighth on the UK All Time lists. She beat top Kenyan Edith Chelimo by over a minute. Lucy MacAlister (Coach: Frank Horwill) went third in the UK rankings with her 55:55 PB.

Amsterdam Marathon, October 16

ERRA National Relays, Sutton Park, October 14

Aldershot won both the men's and women's National Relays.

The women won by over a minute in 57:17 with Charnwood (58:20) second and Bristol and West third (58:50).

Charlotte Purdue (coach: Mick Woods) was AFD’s fastest runner with 13:48 on the anchor leg but her leading mark didn’t last long as Gemma Steel (coach: John Nuttall) brought Charnwood in with a 13:45 for second team and quickest lap of the day.

The men's race was much closer with Aldershot fourth after three of the six legs and second at the start of the final leg until European Championships and Commonwealth Games representative Ben Moreau (coach: Nick Anderson) brought them to an eventual 31 second victory on the final leg.

World Student Games 5000m champion Andy Vernon was AFD’s fastest with a 16:58 leg, but easily the fastest overall was James Wilkinson (coach: Phil Townsend), Britain's number two steeplechaser of 2011, who ran 16:38.

Leeds missed a medal by just three seconds as Aldershot (1:44:51), Birchfield (1:45:22) and Newham and Essex Beagles (1:45:30) held off Wilkinson on the final leg as the leading quartet were separated by just 42 seconds.
