Career summary

A Superb Record

Jenny Pawsey made 17 international appearances during a career which did not take her to the Olympics but still saw enter the world record books.

A runner who could adapt to both the short and the longer sprint, she was part of the team which finished second in 45.3 behind the Soviet Union at the European Cup in Kiev in 1967 when Britain finished fifth overall, but two years later, she set the 4 x 400m quartet on their way to a fine success.

Trophy Triumph

On June 22, 1969, at Crystal Palace, Pawsey ran the first leg for the British team in the Sward Trophy event and the quartet combined brilliantly to break the world record. She handed over to Pauline Attwood, next came Janet Simpson before Lillian Board brought the baton home in 3:37.6. The record lasted just two weeks, before France ran 3:34.2. Six years later, Pawsey was still running respectable times before she retired, having been in one of only two British teams to break that world record.
