About the Disability Athletics Grand Prix Series 2012  

High class international disability athletics competition is back for 2012 just months from the 2012 Paralympic Games

The Disability Athletics Grand Prix is a series of events across the summer aimed at: 

  • Promoting and integrating opportunities for athletes to compete in an elite environment;

  •  

  • Providing and maintaining a sustainable, inclusive and invigorated competition pathway, while also providing an integral element for the development of Paralympic athletes and athletics in the UK;

  •  

  • Providing opportunities for athletes to achieve qualification for major international events on home soil;

  •  

  • Offering diverse competition opportunities for Paralympic athletes, which provide competitors with the chance to compete against athletes of a similar standard from across the world, to aid their preparation for major championships;

  •  

  • Raising the profile of Paralympic athletics, athletes, events and the different classifications, providing a captivated and informed audience a regular taste of this exciting and dynamic sport;

The Knowsley Disability Athletics Grand Prix - which takes place after the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester - and is one of the final opportunities for qualification for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Dates: Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May 2012

Venue: Kirkby Sports College, Bracknell Avenue, Kirkby, Knowsley, Liverpool L32 9PP

Competition Rules - General

All events in the series will be conducted under IPC rules, and all athletes entering the competition must adhere to the rules, conditions and licences that the IPC have in place in order to compete.

Athletes must have an IPC sanctioned classification to compete at the event. Athletes must also have a valid IPC licence.

Winners of track events will be determined via the fastest time, first through the finish line

Field events will have distances adjusted via the use of IPC scoring tables based on their specific classification, which can be found at the following website; http://ipc-athletics.paralympic.org/Downloads/ Please be advised that this is subject to change at the IPC’s discretion, where the most up to date scoring table will be used for the competition.

Understanding Classification

The letter “T” indicates a competitor in a track event.

The letter “F” indicates a competitor in a field event.

The numbers below, which appear after the letter T/F indicate the specific type of impairment;

T/F      11-13              Athletes with a Visual Impairment

T/F      31-38              Athletes with Cerebral Palsy

T/F      40-46              Amputee & Les Autres (including Dwarf Athletes)

T         51-54              Wheelchair Racers

F         51-58              Seated Field Athletes  

Track Events

Winners of track events will be determined via the fastest time, first through the finish line. Photo Finish equipment will be used in all races, with starting blocks and false start equipment being used where applicable.

Field Events

Distances achieved in field events will be adjusted using the applicable points scoring tables from the IPC.

Wind Gauges will be used in where applicable.

Athletes will be permitted 6 trials during field event competitions.

Members of the British media are invited to register to attend the UKA Disability Athletics Grand Prix events, which are as follows:

  • Knowsley: Saturday 21/Sunday 22 May 2011

  • London: Saturday 6 August 2011
