Sainsbury's British Championships | Birmingham Alexander Stadium | 27th, 28th, 29th June 2014
The country's best athletes gathered at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium over the last weekend of June and battled it out for the prestigious honour of being crowned British champion. The competition was doubly fierce as athletes also fought for places on the GB & NI team for the European Championships in Zurich later this summer.
New and old champions were crowned, with Dwain Chambers winning the final race of the weekend, the men's 100m, which is his eighth British title!! Goldie Sayers made it 11 British titles in the javelin!
There were further special performances from Tom Bosworth, who broke the British record en-route to winning the 5000m walk, as well as Charlie Grice becoming the youngest ever British 1500m champion.
Incorporated into the championships was the British Athletics' Club:Connect campaign to reward and recognise the work of clubs. The winning male and female clubs were awarded a £500 grant, so congratulations to Shaftesbury Barnet and Birchfield!
